    I’d revise your friend’s statement just a bit, changing it to “Weeds grow, and I enjoy the flowers.” Of course, that’s from a non-gardener who’s noticed that a true gardener’s definition of ‘weeds’ can be rather expansive! I hope you’re having a fine holiday weekend.

      Ha! Linguists and philosophers likely could have a field day parsing these differences, don’t you think? In this case, while my friend is a gardener and her house shows a flare for that hard to manage combination of cultivation and wildness, in this case, her comment was metaphorical, relating to the garden of the wider world the weeds in which, no matter how noxious, she can’t control.
