Listen to this. You won’t regret it, I promise! With thanks to David Nice, Audun Breen, and Louisa Tuck for bringing the news about this marvelous conductor and orchestra.

I have not yet had a chance to listen to this recording, though I see it has good reviews (including this one from Sue). The final movement of the symphony is one of my favourites of any Sibelius symphony. Wonderfully serene but energetic and lyrical. Late last year we spent a week on a 36 foot yacht with some friends. It had a passable sound system and we enjoyed each other’s playlists over the week. One of the highlights was listening to the finale of Sibelius 3 as the breeze picked up on a sunny afternoon and, under full sail, we headed into a secluded anchorage.

Brian: You story of listening to the finale of Sibelius 3 while on your sailing trip is wonderful. Sibelius has to be smiling somewhere at the thought of his music being put to such good use.
